ERBA Diagnostics Acquires the Calbiotech Group

ERBA Diagnostics Mannheim acquire Calbiotech group of companies 

Mannheim, Germany , 21st April 2017 ... ERBA Diagnostics Mannheim, a leading global player in the in-vitro diagnostics market, has acquired Calbiotech Inc, a USA based specialist in immunoassay development and manufacturing; Calbiotech Veterinary Diagnostics Inc, and Moduline Systems Inc. 

Financial details were not disclosed. 

ERBA Diagnostics Mannheim, with operations across Europe, USA, Russia and Asia, specialise in the development of reliable, innovative and accessible medical diagnostic solutions. The company has a comprehensive portfolio of products across a range of fields including clinical chemistry, immunology, haematology, coagulation, critical care, urine analysis, diabetes monitoring, microbiology and molecular diagnostics. 

Calbiotech Inc, based in California, USA, specialise in immunoassay development and manufacturing, with a comprehensive range of ELISA and CLIA assays for human and animal research, including specific assays for autoimmune disorders, cancer and infectious diseases. The company has over 200 products which are distributed to over 60 countries globally. 

Calbiotech Veterinary Inc, based in California is a specialised manufacturer of veterinary diagnostics and has secured a number of significant contracts in the recent past 

Moduline Systems is a manufacture of high precision liquid dispensing systems including microplate-dispensing and vial-filling equipment that continues to grow and offers versatility to IVD manufactures.

CHINA INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL EQUIPMENT FAIR 2016 - SHANGHAI, CHINA

Calbiotech and Moduline Systems attended the China International Medical Equipment Fair (CMEF) last month. Check out the impressions of this wonderful trip!


CMEF 2016 was held in Sanghai, China, from April 17 to 20. Calbiotech showcased its complete line of ELISA & CLIA tests as well as the latest products, like our new MagCLIA line based on Magnetic Beads for Random Access Immunoassay Analyzers. Moduline Systems, Calbiotech's sister company, also presented the full line of microplate & vial filling equipment.

"CMEF was a great opportunity to have an insight in the Chinese Healthcare Market and to make contact with very interesting people there. Besides, Shanghai is a beautiful city and the food is excellent," says Ignacio Toomey, Calbiotech's International Sales Manager.

ADDING AUTOMATION

Calbiotech is implementing a fully automated filling, capping, and labeling line custom designed by Capmatic, Inc. of Montreal, Quebec. The addition of this new line will increase production throughput and capacity to meet the demands of Calbiotech’s growing business.

CALBIOTECH AT THE DxMA GLOBAL MARKETING SUMMIT

Ignacio Toomey, our International Sales Manager, was one of the speakers at the event held in San Diego. His speech was focused on exporting challenges of small In Vitro Diagnostics (IVD) companies.

Aiming to build diagnostic industry leadership by providing industry knowledge, professional development, and a venue for the exchange of ideas, The Diagnostics Marketing Association (DxMA) promoted the Global Marketing Summit. The event was held in San Diego, from April 13-14, at the Town & Country Hotel. On the invitation of Scherago International’s President, Herbert Burklund, Calbiotech was asked to present about the export challenges of a small IVD company.

Although new to the industry Ignacio hit the ground running when he joined Calbiotech in October 2014,accumulating a significant amount of knowledge in this competitive market. Ignacio emphasized that personalized communication, identifying commonalities and creative marketing efforts were the keys for success. During his first year, Ignacio was able to identify over 40 new international distributors for Calbiotech. His goal is to surpass that in this year.

CALBIOTECH IS MOVING!

After 18 years at our Spring Valley site, this week Calbiotech is moving to a brand new, state of the art facility in El Cajon. The new facility, which is three times the size of the Spring Valley site, will allow room to grow both our production lines and production and R&D teams.

The new facility will also accommodate Moduline Systems, a sister company that manufactures and sells liquid handling equipment, including microplate dispensers, washers, and vial fillers. Our whole team is very excited about the move and is looking forward to the new space, which has been loaded with more automation and technology. Calbiotech will maintain it's Spring Valley facility for other projects.
